What are soft tissue surgical procedures?

Veterinary soft tissue surgery encompasses the majority of surgical procedures that are not in the sphere of Orthopedic Surgery.

We offer soft tissue surgeries for cats and dogs suffering from nose, throat and ear disorders as well as from hepatic, oncological, gastrointestinal, urogenital, cardiothoracic and skin disorders.

Pet Soft Tissue Surgery FAQs

To learn more about veterinary soft tissue surgery at our Tracy vet clinic browse the answers below.

  • What happens during the consultation appointment?

During our consultation pre-operation, we will walk through your pet's medical history with you and perform a physical exam, blood work and any other diagnostic tests which may be required to get more information about your pet's condition.

Diagnostic testing may include radiographs (x-rays), CT scans, ultrasound, and biopsies. Once the results are back, a surgery plan is made and discussed with you.

  • Do the consultation appointment and surgery happen on the same day?

No. The consultation appointment is meant only to perform pre-operative exams. Once any diagnostic tests we conducted at the consultation have returned results from our lab, a surgery appointment can be scheduled.

  • How long does the surgery take?

Soft tissue surgeries generally last between 2 and 4 hours. The exact duration will depend on the kind of surgery we will be performing on your pet as well as the specific of their condition.

  • Does my pet have to stay overnight?

Many of our patients need to stay in the hospital overnight after surgery so that we can monitor them as they recover from the procedure. Depending on the type of surgery that is performed and how quickly they recover after anesthesia and surgery, your pet may be able to go home on the same day.
